Services

Food Distribution
Our basic goal is to provide a six-day supply of food per month to
qualifying individuals and families residing in the postal zip codes 43201, 43211, and 43215. We are supported in this effort by 32 area churches and the Mid-Ohio Food Bank. Over 100 volunteers aid in assessing and providing for the needs of our clients. Clients may visit the pantry twice each month to receive and three-day supply of food. Approximately 10% of our clients are homeless. Since most do not have access to cooking or refrigeration, we provide homeless emergency kits for these clients. Complete with items that have pop-top lids, these bags are full of items that can be eaten as they are packaged. We also provide hygiene items as well.

Ohio Benefit Bank/Food Stamp Access
A staff member from Mid-Ohio Food Bank is available weekly to assist clients in determining eligibility for food stamps. Eligibleclients with a picture ID can apply at the pantry. In addition, our trained counselor offers free tax services and can evaluate eligibility for other benefits through Ohio Job and Family Services

Back to School

Each Summer, sponsoring churches donate school supplies for distribution to our clients. Volunteers assemble kits for each grade level based on recommendations of Columbus City Schools administrators. The kits are distributed in August and September. Any leftover items are donated to a local elementary school.

Grooming Kits/Holiday Gifts

Each Christmas season we distribute approximately 1,500 grooming kits containing soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, comb, razor, shampoo, lotion, and a wash cloth. These items are donated and collected by our supporting churches and delivered to our pantry. On the first Sunday in December, volunteers assemble the kits so that they are ready for distribution the next day. Donations to NNEMAP also help us provide Christmas gifts to families who have nothing for their children. And holiday gift boxes are provided to almost 100 families through the efforts of a few of our churches.

Healthcare

Each quarter, NNEMAP provides access to the Breathing Association’s medical van. We schedule clients for free physicals and x-rays. Once each month representatives from CareSource and Wellcare visit our pantry to answer questions and provide information about their Medicare and Medicaid programs. In addition, once each month nurses from the Columbus Public Health Dept. visit to give flu shots, check blood pressure, sugar levels, etc.
