Dear Volunteers: We Really Can’t Thank You Enough!

Being a volunteer means a lot of things for a lot of organizations. Sometimes it means being a companion. Sometimes it means being part of a team. Sometimes it means doing the heavy lifting. Sometimes it means being a friend.

Being a volunteer at NNEMAP means all of those things–and then a little more. Without the dedicated and compassionate service of over 100 volunteers, NNEMAP could not exist. From the moment customers arrive right through the minute the groceries are bagged and loaded up, they are greeted and served by NNEMAP volunteers.Volunteer Thank You image

Every day, NNEMAP volunteers dedicate over 40 hours of service to the organization. According to a 2014 study, the value of volunteer service is $23.56 per hour. In pure monetary terms, that means NNEMAP volunteers are worth about $1,000.00 per day. Those of us who get to see them in action know they are truly invaluable.

Thank you, volunteers, for your dedication to our mission and, most importantly, to our customers. There is no way to calculate what you mean to us!

Buckeye Volunteers Spring (Clean) Into Action

There may have been a little snow on the ground Saturday morning, but our superb group of student volunteers from the Ohio State University’s “Pay it Forward” program came to NNEMAP with willing hands and warm hearts.

In just a few short hours, our 10 guests swept and mopped the client waiting area; deep-cleaned inside, under and behind our freezers; assisted with some equipment repairs; repackaged about 100 pounds of bulk flour and sugar; organized our shopping bag and cart area; assembled a pair of shelving units; and redesigned our display board.

Best of all, they did it with great enthusiasm and cheerful smiles:

We’re not positive, but we’re pretty sure they slipped off and did even more incredibly helpful things for us when we weren’t looking. When we opened for business on Monday, our building was squeaky clean.

Thanks again to our student friends at Pay it Forward. When we need a special group of volunteers, we know we can always “Go Bucks!”

New Partner Helps Populate Customers’ Cabinets

Pots and Pans logo

NNEMAP Food Pantry is pleased to announce a new partnership with Recycle Pots & Pans. NNEMAP’s primary focus is to provide individuals and families with a three-day supply of food up to two times each month. Through our partnership with Recycle Pots & Pans, we hope to make it easier for families to prepare nutritious meals and enjoy the benefits of family mealtime.

The mission of Recycle Pots and Pans is to provide cooking tools to those in need through the recycling and re-distribution of commonly used kitchen items. The goal is to recycle and share tools such as pots, pans, plates, tableware, measuring cups and small kitchen appliances needed for the easy preparation of meals enjoyed at the family table.

Studies show that when kids eat meals with their families, they’re more likely to have healthy body weights and perform better in school. The role of Recycle Pots and Pans is to help families eat together and do something “green” by recycling at the same time.

Recycle Pots and Pans collects items for recycling and redistribution to those in need by encouraging folks to help us collect, recycle and re-use commonly used kitchen items. To learn more about the program, visit the Recycle Pots and Pans website.

Oh, Baby: New Diaper Partnership is a Dandy!

Diaper Coalition Logo

If you have children, you know that diapers are a big hassle and expense for baby’s first few years. They are also a necessity. Frequent diaper changes are required if you want your youngster’s backside to stay clean and fresh. Diaper rash is a real bummer, if you pardon the expression.

Unfortunately, diapers are difficult for NNEMAP to keep in stock. We are dependent upon individual donations for these items, and our supply simply cannot keep up with current demand. We are working to change all that. The Columbus Diaper Coalition works through pantries and other local distribution points to get diapers in the hands—and on the bottoms—of those who need them.

With NNEMAP as a distribution point for our new friends at Columbus Diaper Coalition, we are looking forward to having a rash of diapers in stock for customers!
