CYP Contest Makes a Splash

The Columbus Young Professionals Club invited NNEMAP Food Pantry to participate in the M.A.D. Splash Challenge, a three-round fundraising event–with eliminations. Yikes!

Don’t worry, though–we got this. We are seasoned competitors in the fundraising contest arena. We stunned the competition by nearly taking the top prize in the United Way’s “Knock Out Poverty” event in 2019 and racked up lots of extra prize money for our troubles.

We were leading in the final days of the Aetna “Voices of Health” voting game in 2019 before getting swamped at the last minute and finishing just out of the money. Aetna generously awarded us $5,000 for being such an inspiration.

So…we can do this! How, you ask? Simple.

From APRIL 5-19, we need to make donations through the NNEMAP Food Pantry page through The Columbus Foundation’s Giving Store site. Don’t worry–we’ll send a link to make it easy.

If we don’t finish in the top 8, that’s where the splash comes in–a member of our fundraising team will be taking a plunge in the pool at Taylor House Apartments. Brrrr!!!!

If…I mean WHEN we advance to ROUND 2, we’ll need social media support–like our posts, comment on them and share them with your friends.

ROUND 3 ends with a limited budget ($100) creative challenge–the top 4 teams advancing out of round 2 compete for the top prize, a $500 bonus donation, and a lifetime of fame and notoriety for winning the first ever M.A.D. Splash!

WHAT WE NEED:

*Donors! Any amount will help us get there. We’ll send links when the contest goes live on Monday, April 5.

*Social Media Support–like, comment, and share NNEMAP Food Pantry’s posts to get us to the final round.

*Creative Thinkers/Insect Architects–in case we need to build a beehive!

NNEMAP + CJO Combine to Jazz Up Your Holidays

For the past 10 years, November has been a big fundraising month for NNEMAP Food Pantry. Our annual “Harmony for Hunger” concert brings together hundreds of volunteers, donors, church partners and patrons for a night of great music. The concert raises between $10-$15,000 for NNEMAP.

This year’s event was cancelled–but you can still get the gift of music this Thanksgiving season. NNEMAP Food Pantry and Jazz Arts Group are teaming up to make it happen. We’re just asking for a little help.

DONATE $50 and we will send you a copy of “Come Together”–a compilation of classics from all eras performed by the incomparable Columbus Jazz Orchestra. As an extra bonus, the first 10 donors will get a copy signed by CJO Conductor Byron Stripling!

Thank You, Donors!

Dear NNEMAP Food Pantry Donors,

Wow. There are no words to describe your generosity, so “Wow,” is going to have to do. The “Big Give” ended yesterday afternoon at 6:00pm. In just 32 hours, you donated $52,513.89 to NNEMAP Food Pantry. And that’s BEFORE our share of matching funds from the prize pool.

Wow. 

In a year when we have lost so much, you reminded us of just how much we have. We have your support. We have your encouragement. We have…you.

On behalf of the thousands of area households we serve, thank you for being there for us.

From the entire staff and Board of Directors, thank you for walking beside us as we strive to eliminate hunger in our city.

A Gifting Tuesday

It’s not everyday that a major international celebration coincides with a global giving event. But here we are–Cinco de Mayo and #GivingTuesday, joined together in a unifying day of hope and, hopefully, change. Spare change, that is. 

For the price of a marguerita at a major chain restaurant, we can provide a family with three days’ worth of groceries. That’s not bad. Why not have one for the road? We’ll serve two families!

To get you in that #GivingTuesday mood, here are some fun and completely factually inaccurate statements about Cinco de Mayo:

-Actor Robert De Niro considered changing his name to Roberto Dinero before auditioning for the title role in ‘Scarface.’ He reconsidered after reading the script.

-American author John dos Passos did change his original name. He was named John dos Pesos at birth. (That is entirely untrue. He was actually christened ‘John Hey It Would Be Amazing if You Donated Six Bucks to NNEMAP Today.’

-Cinco de Mayo was not celebrated for decades. After France’s dismal showing in the two World Wars, Mexico did not want to sound like a bully for routing the French Empire in 1862.

Paint for a Cause–Ours!

The irascible Oscar Wilde once opined that, “All art is quite useless.” While we understand the importance of being earnest (see what I did there?), we respectfully disagree with Wilde on this point. In fact, we’re going in the complete opposite direction. In the bleak midwinter, you can put some color back into the world by joining us at Brush Crazy to “Paint for a Cause.”

The team at Brush Crazy has made it as easy as 1-2-3 (think of it as paint and donate by numbers!):

1. Visit Brush Crazy on SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 2020, show them this post or just tell them you’re painting for NNEMAP. Drop in anytime (and bring the family–it’s kid-friendly!).

2. Paint whatever item you choose (staff is there to help get you started and give you pointers along the way)

3. NNEMAP Food Pantry gets a generous portion of the proceeds as a cash donation.

You make art, NNEMAP Food Pantry gets money. THAT is useful art! Come join us on SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 2020 anytime between 11am and 6pm. Chase the winter blues (and Dorian Grays?) away and support NNEMAP Food Pantry. Win-win!!!
